Kibasu batting masterclass completes Qatar double punch

Fatuma Kibasu registered the maiden half century of the Kenya Women’s T20 tournament helping Tanzania Women to a massive 77 – run win over Qatar in the fourth match of the Kenya Women’s T20 tournament at Nairobi Gymkhana. In turn, this ensured that Qatar lost their second match of the day, having earlier fell to Uganda by 8 wickets in their tournament opener at the same venue.

Electing to bat, the skipper put up a record 111 – run opening partnership that set up the highest total of the tournament, yet, 4/175 in 20 overs, including the highest power play score of the tournament, 0 – 49.

Kibasu blasted five fours in her 44 – ball 52 before her stumps were rattled by Saachi Dhadwal at the close of the 12th over. Saum Mtae received the same treatment from Shahreen Bahadur six balls later, falling painfully a run short of her maiden half century of the tournament.

Veteran batter Monica Pascal (28 off 23) and Hudaa Omary (26 off 22) completed the onslaught for Tanzania.

In reply, Qatar Women offered better stroke play than their morning match in the form of Aysha who floored 6 boundaries in her quest for a well earned 28 runs, four of which came off Aisha Mohamed as she wrapped up the powerplay overs. Aysha's partnership with Dhadwal (21) was the highlight of the innings, the two putting up a 45 - run partnership for the second wicket that helped Qatar to 9/98 at the close of the innings.

Nasra Saidi and Agnes Qwele were the pick of the bowlers for Tanzania with two wickets-a-piece.
