Hosts' race to the finals in limbo after loss to Uganda

Kenya's automatic dash to the finish line was further delayed by a convincing 6-wicket loss to Uganda as they wrapped up a double loss to their East African counterparts in the ongoing Kenya Women's T20 tournament at the Nairobi Gymkhana.

Kenya set up a solid opening stand of 41 in just 6.2 overs courtesy of Mary Mwangi (31) and Monicah Ndhambi (17) but their momentum was stopped short when the latter was run out while hesitating one too many within the inner ring by Rita Musamali.

Veronica Abuga took it up a notch with a 21 - ball 26 but it turned out to be a little too late as the hosts ending up on 4/107, with stand-in skipper Sharon Juma contributing 18 off 32 balls.

In return, Flavia Odhiambo's 3-fer was barely enough to stop the Ugandan batters who put on a strong reply with the bat to solidify their place at the top of the 4-nation table.

Proscovia Alako turned a new leaf after a couple of rusty innings to put on 38 runs from 31 balls inclusive of four boundaries and two maximums as Uganda rushed to a steady victory with 22 balls to spare. Stephani Nampiina hit the final blow in style, a maximum over the Murang'a Road end of the ground to finish unbeaten on 30 off 17 balls, a boundary and two-sixes tally to her account. Musamali held the other end to also finish unbeaten on 20 runs off 18 balls while registering three boundaries.

Kenya play Tanzania tomorrow afternoon with nothing short of a win required to get into the finals on Wednesday afternoon.
