Kenya's all round brilliance delivers redemption against Tanzania
Kenya’s day of mixed bags ended with an emphatic six - wicket win over Tanzania to cap a rain affected day with a glimmer of sunshine in the opening day of the inaugural Kenya Women’s T20 tournament at the Nairobi Gymkhana.
Despite losing the toss for the second time in a row, Kenya managed to restrict Tanzania to 90 runs in 19 overs, thanks to a thrilling 4/22 from Flavia Odhiambo’s spell as she swept through the middle order. Only Saum Mtae withstood the precise bowling from the hosts to top score with 36 runs from 33 balls before being held off by Monica Ndhambi to gift Esther Wachira her first wicket in the 15th over.
Wachira, Lavender Idambo and Melvin Khagoitsa each picked two wickets-a-piece.
In reply, Queentor Abel led her troops from the front, registering two fours and sixes alike to put on 35 runs from 34 balls in a 37 – run second wicket partnership with her Nakuru home girl Daisy Njoroge (17.)
Perice Mamunya, Sheila Shamte and Agnes Qwele each picked a sole wicket for the Coastal visitors.
Kenya takes a break tomorrow to pave way for Qatar's double header against Uganda and Tanzania at 10:30 am and 2:30pm, respectively, at the same venue.
